Oval Saggar Fired Vase- Red Mashiko Clay (banana peel and grass)
Cylindrical Saggar Fired Vase- Red Mashiko Clay (banana peel and grass)
This series explores organic smoke firing using a sayabachi (saggar), drawing on Japanese ceramic traditions and low-temperature firing methods. Burnished functional vessels are enclosed with organic materials such as banana peels, citrus skins, and gathered plant matter including leaves and flower petals. As these materials combust, smoke and mineral traces mark the surface unpredictably, allowing chance, fire, and natural waste to collaborate in the final form. The works hold fleeting seasonal matter in permanent clay, emphasising impermanence, care, and the quiet intimacy of process.
